Women In Ag
Posted by: Melissa on August 14, 2009Paul and Cindy Heins agreed 27 years ago that love and marriage go together. The business partnership that evolved after their wedding day is icing on the cake. Cindy takes care of the bills, payroll and record-keeping in their Higginsville, Mo., farm operation. “Paul concentrates on keeping the farm running smoothly and efficiently,” Cindy says. “We’re business partners and truly are in it together.”
A survey of 150 Wisconsin Heart of the Farm – Women in Agriculture participants indicates that 85% (of women) regularly handle the books and bills. They also share in long-term planning decisions.
The Heinses are in transition. “Building a 700-cow dairy facility in the most unsettling financial times since the Great Depression is a challenge,” Paul says. “I’m fortunate my wife is my business partner.”
