Missouri’s Commodity Groups Team up for Lunch and Learn Program

Posted by: Dawn Thurnau on June 4, 2008

The Missouri Beef Industry Council, Missouri Cattlemen’s Association and Missouri Cattlemen’s Foundation are working with our peers in the soybean, corn, pork, dairy and poultry organizations to present a series of educational luncheons across the state this summer. The kickoff for the Lunch and Learn series for this year was held at Circle A Feedlot in Huntsville, Missouri. As more people become distanced from the farm and ranch, it is imperative that we tell them the story of agriculture and what it takes to produce the food they enjoy. The primary messages of the Lunch and Learn program are that Missouri agriculture is committed to three things:

1. Providing a safe, wholesome, affordable food supply.
2. Good stewardship of our land and animals
3. Missouri’s economic development

The programs will be held at host farms and will highlight the livestock or crops produced on each farm. Farmers and ranchers will be inviting neighbors, business people and other special guests to come to the farm for a great lunch, information about modern food production and a farm tour.

“These programs are critical to helping to tell the story of beef from pasture to plate,” says Mark Akin of Circle A Ranches. “We want to make sure people know the economic impact of our presence in this community.”
